The Creative Teacher Giveaway! 1 for Me & 1 for You

Now that it is FINALLY summer I hope to get caught up on things. Am I the only one who has pinned things for years with every intention of making some of these awesome, crafty things, but I haven't had time to get started? Well, this is it! I'm going to finally tackle a project and one of you will also get this project -- without all of the work! Just scroll down to the end of this post to enter the giveaway. The winner will be sent this item in the mail. You'll have to be in the contiguous US to enter the giveaway because I am shipping this item. Most of my giveaways do not have that requirement. Also, this giveaway is for classroom teachers and homeschool teachers. You will need to be able to verify that you are a teacher. For EVERYONE: there's a downloadable menu card freebie at the end of this post! There are also instructions so that you can make your own craft even if you don't win this one.

Near the end of the school year, I was talking to a middle school girl whose mom is a teacher. Her mom had been out-of-town for a while and she was so excited that she was coming home because they would finally get meals! I said - you get real food during the school year! My kids will be so jealous! She assured me that it was only on the weekend. :) I have been beyond busy this year and my poor family has had to suffer in the meal department. We have been close friends with the frozen food aisles! I am hopeful, now that my Masters degree is behind me, that I can do some planning this year and manage to keep up with meals during this next school year. Enter the meal calendar...
I was inspired by a few ideas from pinterest:
                * Magnetic Menu Board
                * Hanging Menu Board
                * Framed Menu Board

Mine needed to be neutral to go with most decors. I decided to use a burlap board as the background. I did most of my shopping at Hobby Lobby, but most of these things could be found at any craft store. Following is a list of the materials I used & a few pictures:

* 16"x20" Burlap Canvas ($11.99 - use a coupon!)
* 1 sheet of scrapbook paper  (.59/each)
* 4 chipboard letters (3.5"; Chip Decor by the Paper Studio) .99/each
* Ribbon - I used 1 roll for 2 boards (5/8" x 15') by the Ribbon Boutique  $2.99
* Black clothespins (I used a pack of 7 by Recollections (scrapbooking) that I found at Michaels
* Paper flowers (I used a 6 pc set by Recollections ~ Michaels)
* Tim Holtz idea-ology Metal Clips $3.99
* Spare Parts Slide Alphabet (metal "buttons" and alpha stickers) I think this was $6.99 @ Hobby Lobby
*thumb tacks

Here's the thing that I'm SO excited about ~ the menu cards have QR codes that link to the recipe! Now, I won't have to try to remember if this recipe is from pinterest, allrecipes, etc. I can just use my phone and a QR scanner (I use the free QR reader by Scan).
 You can download the cards I created. There are also blank cards for you to just write your recipe titles (for those who don't want QR codes). I've also made the whole thing editable so that you can type in your own recipes. If you want to make QR codes to link to your recipes, just copy the link and use goqr.me to generate a QR code from the html link. I like to save the code as a .jpg and then just insert it into the document like a picture.

FREE MENU CARDS: Here are the menu cards in .pdf (just print and go) and .ppt (an editable powerpoint file).

a Rafflecopter giveaway
Now that you have your menu board, you'll need some meal ideas! :) My pinterest recipe boards range from decadent to dieting so there's something for everyone!! Here they are if you need some more foody inspiration.

Guest blogging & sending wishes

I'm typing this by a window that looks out at the ocean - the best office ever! We took a quick get-away to the beach. I seriously think I may have to move near the ocean someday. It takes us about 6 hours to get to the beach from our house. This was an extra busy and difficult school year and there were many days that we'd think about going to the beach. That was a way to get through a few days that weren't so good. Now, here we are resting and relaxing! The picture is of our 2 boys being silly in the waves.
My worse days are absolutely nothing compared to the trials of so many others. I just found out that Blue Bunny (the ice cream company) will donate $1 to Make-a-Wish for every greeting card that you create at their site. You just choose (or create) a card and type a message. There isn't a sign-in or anything. You could easily do it in 1-2 minutes.Just go to Blue Bunny to create your card, brighten someone's day and help wishes come true!

My friend, Andrea, at Reading Toward the Stars invited me to be a guest blogger for her. It was fun writing a post for another blog! I shared about teaching writing. It includes a link to one of my favorite resources (that you can read online for FREE!), links to a few of my writing freebies, a cute story written by one of my 1st graders and some tips for teaching writing. Stop by Reading Toward the Stars to find out more!

I have so many great things planned for you this summer - blog hops, freebies, giveaways and all kinds of exciting stuff! I'll be posting about one in just a few more days. Enjoy your week!
